The Story County Amateur Radio Club is inviting hams to participate in a Fox Hunt, or hidden transmitter hunt, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on this coming Sunday, 28 Apr 2013, in Ames, Iowa. We request all interested hunters assemble in the parking lot west of Ames City Hall (behind the Ames Veteran’s Memorial, Grand Avenue and 5th Street) to register with the hunt leader and receive the hunt rule briefing. Hunters may be individuals or teams and the fox will be hidden somewhere within the Ames city limits.
The next meeting of the Story County Amateur Radio Club will be Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be in Conference Room D next to Bessie Meyers Auditorium on the first floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC). The closest parking is in the lot north of the ER and ambulance garage. Enter through the North Door where MGMC meets McFarland Clinic.
The program will be a video entitled “The Last BIG Field Day,” a documentary of the W3AO 50A Field Day operation in 2004 (i.e., 50 stations in class A).
CARC (Cyclone Amateur Radio Club) will be operating as WØI on central campus during VEISHEA from 9 am to 5 pm on April 20. They are celebrating 100 years of amateur radio on campus. Listen for them around 7.275, 14.275, and 28.375 as well as the CARC repeaters (147.375 or 443.375) and give them a call.
