Field Day is always held on the fourth full weekend of June, so the 2026 event is on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28.
This year we are taking a new approach to Field Day by combining efforts with several area radio clubs, including:
- Boone Area Radio Klub (BARK), http://www.qsl.net/kb0tlm/ or https://www.facebook.com/KB0TLM/
- Coon Valley Amateur Radio Club (CVARC), https://www.arrl.org/Groups/view/coon-valley-amateur-radio-club
- Hiawatha Amateur Radio Club (HARC), https://harciowa.org/
- Story County Amateur Radio Club, http://w0yl.com
Additionally, local amateur radio operators without a club affiliation are welcome to join us.
We will be operating from the Carl “Fritz” Henning Shelter off Lower Ledges Road at Ledges State Park, Madrid, Iowa.

Tentative Schedule:
- Friday 5:00 PM: Set up antennas.
- Saturday Morning 9:00 AM: Set up stations.
- Saturday at 1:00 PM: Start of Field Day operations.
- Sunday at 1:00 PM: End of Field Day operations, begin site tear down.
Planned Operation:
- CW Station
- Digital Station.
- Phone Station.
- VHF Bonus Station.
- Get On The Air (GOTA) Station.
We will be operating with call sign W0YL and our exchange will be 3A IA.
Participants, please remember to bring:
- Headphones or headset.
- Portable camping or lawn chair.
- Refillable water bottle or your own non-alcoholic beverages of choice.
- Meals or snacks.
Also, please encourage your family and friends to join us so they can try the GOTA station.
Field Day would not happen without volunteers to help set up the stations and tear down. Please consider joining us on Friday evening, Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon to lend a hand and learn more about portable stations. The clubs will be buying pizza for those that are present on Friday evening during setup.
Each club will be cooking a group meal for Saturday lunch, Saturday supper, and Sunday brunch. We will have a pre-purchased ticket system so everyone knows how much food to bring. Stay tuned for more details around the first of June.
Visitors are welcome! We particularly encourage visitors on Saturday between 2:00 and 6:00 PM, as well as on Sunday from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.
Thanks to:
- Story County Emergency Management Agency for providing the use of the EMA trailer,
- and thanks for everyone who is helping to setup, tear down, and operate.
