SCARC in the Park is a Parks on the Air (POTA) activation held at a local state park, often Ledges State Park. It’s a relaxed, low-key event that offers plenty of opportunities to socialize, get to know fellow operators, and have fun activating the park.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of license class or club membership, and advance registration is not required. You’re welcome to attend for the entire event or simply drop by whenever your schedule allows.
Extra-class control operators are typically available throughout the day to help ensure FCC compliance, particularly when we’re operating under the club callsign, W0YL. By logging each operator’s actual on-air contacts, participants can also receive credit for their own POTA activation contacts—it’s a win-win!
SCARC in the Park is a great opportunity to learn, gain experience, and improve your amateur radio operating skills.
We typically hold several SCARC in the Park events throughout the year. If none are currently scheduled, contact the club board if you’d like to volunteer to organize one.
Upcoming SCARC in the Park:
Iowa Statewide POTA Get-Together
Once a year SCARC hosts an an Annual Iowa Statewide POTA Get-Together. This event is much like SCARC in the Park but at a larger scale as we invite ham radio operators from across the state to join us. Many of us camp and socialize together for the weekend.
